From The Word:
"but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they
will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31
Yesterday, I took a little time to get alone with God in the foothills by Red Rocks. I have this place that
I go that is hidden by some big rocks and trees. At one point yesterday while sitting back against my backpack, I was
praying about feeling tired and weary from my summer full of activities. Eventually, I dozed off for about fifteen minutes
or so.
I awoke to the majestic sound of two eagles screeching high over head as they flew across the mountain
canyons. Eagles are one of my favorite animals to see (or hear) in the wild. Then I turned in my Bible to read this
familiar passage from Isaiah 40:28-31.
Isaiah 40:30 reminds us that we all can get tired or weary in life, "Even youths shall faint and be
weary, and young men shall fall exhausted". But when we get weak or worn out all we need to do is look to the God who
never gets faint or runs out of strength (Isaiah 40:28). As we hope in Him and in His character and promises our strength
will be refilled and renewed.
One of the obvious promises to hope in is verse 29, "He gives strength to the weary and increases the
power of the weak." Needless to say, after a brief nap and a refreshing reading of this passage, I felt more encouraged
and renewed.
Later in the day, while "prayer-hiking" (kind of like prayer-walking, but on a trail) I came to a clearing
that overlooked much of Red Rocks. As I looked up the hillside, I saw a large golden eagle perched on a rock that wasn't
very high off the ground. It was the largest eagle I have ever seen. It almost looked fake (like one of those eagles from
the Lord of the Rings).
After it saw me, it just stretched out it's wings and glided down the hillside almost effortlessly then
soared away over the canyon ridge. It was awesome, and I was really encouraged!
This week let's all take some time to find a promise from God that we can have our hope mounted upon. Even
if it's simply the promise that we read above, "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the
weak."
Soar On,
Rich
